miercoles, el 30 de noviembre

Today we practiced and reviewed a bunch of our vocabulary, and worked on the Family words. Family trees were due, but students weren't ready to explain them out loud, and we'll hang on to them until a future class when their fluency is greater and they can explain them comfortably. We did 2 activities of listening cuaderno work.

Homework: Pg. 21-24 cuaderno, photocopied packet to complete using the pages from the book as reference.

Friday, 11/18

Friday we practiced description words and took a test. Students turned in their "Novio/a de mis suenos" papers. We went over the vocabulary for the family.

Homework: A family tree, with descriptions of who each person is to YOU. (El es mi abuelo. Ella es mi tia. Ella es mi hermana, etc.)

Today we practiced the description words like crazy. We drew a person, as described by Keidi, we described the boyfriend/girlfriend of our dreams, and otherwise practiced the descriptions.

Homework: Quiz on the Description words on Friday. Study and memorize and practice them!

We worked today on Physical and Personality Descriptions. We started a page of listening exercises that we will keep in binders and continue a little bit every day.
We started the vocabulary about the Family.

Today we reviewed verbs and took the verb quiz. We then worked a bunch with personality and physical descriptions, learning the vocabulary.

Homework: Describe someone you know, using 6 personality description words and 6 physical description words. Use the verb "Ser" = to be, the he/she form, (el/ella) which is "es". I.e. Mi mama es bonita. Maria es ___________. etc.

Today we practiced verbs a bunch, as well as "Le Gusta" by playing "A Pacho Camacho le gusta." We played other games with verbs, as well, getting ready for the verb quiz on Friday. We looked at famous people and talked about their characteristics, as we're going to be learning physical and personality description words.

Homework: Verb Quiz on Friday:
Study from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English, the quiz is not matching, it's fill in the blanks, some English and some Spanish.

Today, Weds, 10/26, we practiced the clothes, creating a drawing with random index cards of clothing described on them.
To describe our drawings, we used the verb llevar.
LLevar: to wear
Yo llevo----- I wear

el/ella/usted lleva----- he/she/usted wears
nosotros llevamos-- we wear
ellos/ellas/ustedes llevan- they/you all wear

We took the clothes quiz, talked about Me Gusta and handed out Cuaderno pages 14 & 17 for homework, working on Ser and Me Gusta.

la semana del 12 y 14 de octubre

Once again I've forgotten to blog on Weds, sorry! Wednesday we practiced body parts, sang "Don Alfredo Baila..." to learn some body parts, and labeled our partner with post its to practice body parts. A handout of Grammar Help pages (four photocopied sheets) was passed out to teach and reinforce the idea of "articles": el/la, los/las, and direct object pronouns: un/una, unos/unas. We also worked on Ser, the verb "to be".
Homework Weds was to study for the Body Parts Quiz on Friday.

Friday: Practiced Body Parts, then took the quiz. We practiced more with "Ser" and briefly introduced items of clothing, "La ropa".

Homework Friday, due next Wednesday: Write a sentence with a visual for each pronoun and it's form of the verb "ser"- to be. You should have 9 sentences and visuals total.

Today we practiced then took a quiz on Pronouns and numbers 1-100. We practiced TPR and learned the names of many body parts.

Homework: Modern Art Body: Cut out pictures of body parts from a magazine or online and put them together on a piece of paper to form a body of mismatched pieces, like "modern art". Then label each body part using the Spanish word. Due next Wednesday.

miercoles, el 28 y viernes el 30 de septiembre

How do I forget to update the blog on Wednesdays? Wednesday we took our Conversations quiz, and went over it. Many students did the homework and completed their flash cards of the conversation words. We practiced colors and numbers 1-10, and introduced Pronouns.
Homework: To draw a visual illustrating each pronoun:
yo - I
tu - you (familiar)

ella- she
usted - you(formal)

miercoles, el 21 y viernes el 23 de septiembre

I missed blogging Wednesday, sorry. Wednesday we took a quiz on the numbers 1-10, days of the week, months, and alphabet. Most students did very well! Memorize Memorize Memorize! Friday we practiced our conversations, with all the vocabulary below, which students will be responsible for on Wednesday, for a Conversation Notes quiz. The quiz has written questions in Spanish that students will respond to in Spanish (writing).
We also started TPR "Total Physical Response" which is acting out words/verbs. Our verbs so far:
caminar - to walk
correr- to run
cantar- to sing
bailar- to dance
saltar- to jump
comer- to eat
da una vuelta- turn around
hablar- to talk
escuchar- to listen
leer- to read
estudiar- to study
escribir- to write
We will work on these lots more!

miercoles, el catorce de septiembre, 2011

Today in class we went over the brain and how it learns a second language. We talked about the months and days of the week, and the letters in the alphabet. We talked about why its good to learn a language, and went over the course outline and syllabus.

Homework: 1. Read the photocopied packet I handed out, and answer the questions in Section 1. For Section 2, read over the information about the alphabet and start memorizing the alphabet.

2. Go over the Syllabus with a parent and both student and parents need to sign, I want everyone to know there are a lot of hours students will need to spend outside of class making sure that they know the words. 8)

Homework: Create a visual dictionary of verbs, starting with the ones on page 167, but which will eventually include all the verbs we have learned this year.

In class Thursday we practiced telling time, we played Guess Who, and practiced Question Words.

Homework is:
1. After STAR testing and this week: make sure you know ALL vocabulary from ALL the vocab. lists so far. At the end of every chapter up to 2.2, there is a vocabulary page that you should know!
2. Traduciones page, translate the worksheet into your best Spanish.

Today we read pg. 116 -117 and answered questions 1-5 in complete sentences (IN SPANISH!) Students also finished up what only a few had finished for homework, their "Tengo que" papers, listing 10 things they have to do, with visuals.
ie: 1. Tengo que estudiar espanol.
2. Tengo que preparar la tarea.
3. etc..., all the way to 10.


Tarea: Finish the whole cuaderno packet I gave. pages 30-40.

Hoy aprendimos muchos partes de la clase, y mucho vocabulario. Several students introduced their families with a picture, and we went over some past homework.

There is no Spanish class on Thursday, 2/17! I will be out, Humanities but no Spanish.

Homework: On Tuesday, 2/22, Vocab quiz p. 121. Study for it every day, we're going to start the chapter out knowing the vocabulary. Use Googletranslate.com to help with pronunciation. Memorize the words! Draw yourself a dictionary. Study!!

martes, el ocho de febrero

Today we practiced a bunch with "Quien es" and "Quienes son" and parts of the family and other vocabulary. I also passed back the p. 93 vocab quizzes, and scores of lower than 20/30 need to make up the quiz. 8)

Homework:
1. In class on Thursday, each student will present their family to the class. Bring a picture or email me a picture so you can show the class a picture of your family, which will make it much easier to talk about them. Use the verb tener to talk about each person (Yo tengo dos hermanos, se llaman Jorge y Luis.)

2. P. 90-91- do activities 1-5.

Today we took a quiz on the vocabulary for Unidad 1, Etapa 3, (1.3), page 93. We reviewed the verb "Tener" and verb conjugations, and the pronouns.

Homework: In the book, pages 78-85, Activities 6,7,11,17. Read the directions, look at the grammar boxes, follow the examples. 8)

Today we reviewed and did a bunch with verb conjugations, specifically -ar ending verbs. This is also taught in the book, in grammar boxes on page 109.


Homework: Quiz on the vocabulary only, matching, of page 93, on THURSDAY. NO CLASS TUESDAY BECAUSE OF High School Exit Exam Testing! Sorry for the confusion. Study study study your vocabulary!!
